External Insulation Façade Systems or E.I.F.S is an innovative approach to keeping your house warm, comfortable, and considerably lowering your energy consumption. We wrap the exterior of your house with a layer of insulation to trap the heat, while also giving you a brand new, low maintenance, natural finish that will blend seamlessly into any surrounding area.
The walls of your house are areas where heat loss is one of the greatest reaching up to 35% of the overall loss. This equates to €€€’s escaping through your external walls. External Insulation involves fixing rigid insulation materials such as mineral wool or expanded polystyrene slabs to create the outer surface of the wall. By installing external insulation you are effectively wrapping your home in a blanket of insulation, thus preventing the possibility of cold bridging. The process of ewi first starts by fixing a starter track to the wall, then the insulation of your choice is mechanically fixed to the wall, insulating reveals and over window cills to prevent thermal bridging. The insulation is then covered with a lightweight polymer modified basecoat and a fibreglass mesh is embedded in this render to provide strength and impact resistance. A final coat is then applied which is available in a wide range of finishes to choose from. The thicknesses of insulation available are from 50mm to 200mm. 
Smart Facades can help you bring your existing building up to current building regulations, which require a minimum u-value of 0.27 W/m2k, although better u-values can easily be achieved by increasing the thickness of the insulation. This technology is well established in Northern Europe and America where temperatures regularly drop well below freezing. This method of insulating is so successful that almost all low energy houses incorporate it into their design.

Application Process
- Mechanically fix aluminium starter track
- Mechanically fix insulation board
- Apply basecoat to the insulation board
- Apply glassfibre mesh over the fresh basecoat
- Apply another coat of basecoat over the mesh
- Apply the pre-coloured primer over the basecoat when dry.
- Apply the Acrylic finish coat or Pre-Coloured Cement Mortar at least 24 hours later
